Character Explorations
3D Character Design, Creatures & Look-Dev Studies
Whenever I want to test a new shader, lighting rig, or render engine without the pressure of a client brief, I end up building characters. Give a basic primitive two eyes, slightly awkward proportions, and a stubborn personality, and a technical test immediately turns into a story.
This page collects five personal 3D character and creature series created in Cinema 4D, Octane, and Redshift: from geometric ensembles and fuzzy misfits to rusted mechanical bots and looping walk cycles.
A Band
An exercise in stripped-back geometric proportions, subsurface plastics, and silent attitude. Built to see how much personality a crowd of simple blue shapes can project before anyone plays a note.
Laa-dee-daaa
A quartet of pastel vinyl-toy misfits: spring-loaded necks, saucer hats, and washing-machine bellies lit on a seamless white cyc.
Bband
A marching band of yellow-and-crimson mechanical bots with accordion chests, wheeled legs, and animated walk cycles.
b345713 b0z
Six boxy, weathered industrial robots with scratched paint shaders, exposed tubing, and studio rim-lighting.
Sometimes I Draw Eyes
Looping character walk cycles, sleepy giants, and hair/fur groom studies exploring bouncy keyframe timing and soft studio lighting.
